Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
The third son of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, he was born in Dubai in 1949 and studied there before travelling to attend the Bell Cambridge English school and the Mons Officer Cadet School before returning to Dubai to become Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police Force in 1968 and the UAE's Minister of Defence in 1971. In 1995, he was appointed Crown Prince of Dubai and 2006 acceded as ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates.
